bangle that was made circa 1880 during the Aesthetic period. At that time this movement was a reaction to the overblown high VictorianJewellery made in the the Victorian era (1839-1901). style and artists looked to the Far East for inspiration. Japanese art was greatly admired in its relative simplicity so the Aesthetic period also became known as Japonism. The motifs are butterflies, a crane and bullrushes with birds in the distance. The butterflies and the crane have been applied with g red and yellow gold overlay with gold overlay surrounds. The edges of the bangle are scalloped.
