A stylish large oval 9ct37.5% pure gold (or 375 parts pure gold and 625 parts other metals) gold locket that was made circa 1880. It has a garter and buckle design on one side. The garter symbolised chastity and virtue. It has been engraved on the front and reverse with flowers and ferns and has a chevron motif around the edge. It opens to reveal two compartments for photographs. These lockets look great when worn on a mid length gold chain.
