Horseshoes are traditionally considered to be lucky. Many different pieces of jewellery that featured horseshoes were made in the VictorianJewellery made in the the Victorian era (1839-1901). period. This locket is a typical example and is a double sided horseshoe design with engraved sides. It opens to reveal a glazed compartment for a photograph. It was made circa 1880 and is 9ct37.5% pure gold (or 375 parts pure gold and 625 parts other metals) gold back and front. It looks great when worn on a medium length trace link chain.
