A lovely gold collar which was made circa 1800-1820. It has been set with well matched graded amethysts which were very fashionable and expensive in the Regency period. It has a little loop behind the central stone which could still be used to suspend another amethystAmethyst is the purple variety of macrocrystalline quartz. From the Greek amethystos meaning ‘a remedy against drunkedness’, it was believed to prevent intoxication and ensure the wearer retains a clear head and quick wit. It was once considered as valuable as ruby, sapphire and emerald. piece if it can be found! Personally I would wear this necklace just as it is.
