A fabulous original pair of 9ct37.5% pure gold (or 375 parts pure gold and 625 parts other metals) gold cufflinks that were made circa 1780. Each link has been rub over set with dendritic agateA variety of cryptocrystalline quartz (chalcedony), typically banded in appearance. The use of agate in jewellery dates back to the Stone Age.. Dendritic Agates are actually chalcedonyA microcrystalline type of quartz occurring in several different forms including onyx and agate., interspersed with dark black or brown inclusions of manganese or iron oxides that form in tree like patterns. These stones were highly prized in the GeorgianJewellery made in the Georgian era (1714-1830). period and as you can imagine they looked stunning with the fashions from that period.
