From the Greek amethystos meaning ‘a remedy against drunkedness’, it was believed to prevent intoxication and ensure the wearer retains a clear head and quick wit. It was once considered as valuable as ruby, sapphire and emerald. earrings are a perfect example. They would have been worn alongside an amethyst riviere necklace. They consist of two pear shaped amethyst drops with oval shaped amethyst tops that have been pinched collet set. The stones have been foiled to give them added luminescence and they display pink and lilac tones.
