A pretty 9ct37.5% pure gold (or 375 parts pure gold and 625 parts other metals) gold swallow tie pin. The swallow was considered daring, risk-seeking, and a symbol of change for good in the future. The use of turquoiseTurquoise is an opaque gem and is often formed in what is called matrix, a black or brown veining derived from the host rock in which the gem forms. In fine jewellery, unblemished sky blue turquoise is the ideal, although regularly patterned matrix turquoise is also sought-after. meant “Forget me not” after the flower of the same name. It also meant “Everlasting love” and “loyalty” as swallows mate for life. It was retailed by the firm Murrle Bennett & Co in their Regent Street premises in the early 1900s.
