A very pretty 9ct37.5% pure gold (or 375 parts pure gold and 625 parts other metals) gold back and front heart shaped locket that was made circa 1910. The term â9ct Back & Frontâ and silverA metallic element which is malleable and ductile, and white in colour, making it ideal for use in jewellery. It is usually mixed with copper to improve its hardness.
setting means that the pasteGlass made to resemble gem materials, which may be moulded, faceted, carved, etc. is set in silver, the front and back are 9ct gold and the inner frames and hinges are metal. It has a swallow with a branch of flowers on one side set with three garnets and white paste. The outside design is unusual as it is scalloped. It opens to reveal two areas for photographs. The swallow was considered daring, risk-seeking, and a symbol of change for good in the future. It also meant âEverlasting loveâ and âloyaltyâ as swallows mate for life.
