A beautiful 18ct white gold ring with a platinum top that was made circa 1910-1920.. It has been claw set with a black opal that displays a myriad of flashing colours, red, blue and green. Unlike ordinary opals, black opals have carbon and iron oxide trace elements present, which cause the unusual darkness of the stone. They are rare and stunning stones and the black opal in this ring is a particularly good example. Around the opal on a slightly lower level are small well matched diamonds within millgrain settings.
It sits low on the finger and looks amazing when worn.
