Early 20th Century 14ct Gold, Diamond & Carnelian Ring With A Carved Intaglio Of An Eagle

A really impressive large 14ct58.5% pure gold (or 585 parts pure gold to 415 parts other metals) gold ring that was most likely made in Germany circa 1920. It has been set with a carnelian​A translucent red variety of chalcedony which in its turn is a form of cryptocrystalline quartz. ​Carnelian has​ been known and used since antiquity when it was sourced from the surfaces of the Egyptian and Arabian deserts. The ​most prized carnelian has a true blood-red color. with a carved intaglioAn engraved stone, the opposite of a cameo, with a recessed design cut below the surface of the stone. Intaglio designs are common for signet rings and fob seals. of an eagle and a shield and the words “Pluribus unum” latin for “Out of many” It was the traditional motto of the United States of America appearing on the Great SealA stone or metal plaque carved with an image (an intaglio) but with design reversed so that it is readable when impressed in wax.
