18ct Gold Snake Bangle With Garnet Eyes

A super 18ct gold coily snake that was made in Italy in the 1970s.  Italian jewellery is inventive and beautifully made and this snake bangle is no exception.  His body is composed of interlocking scales.  The head is finely modelled and he has garnet eyes.  There is a spring inside the body that holds it close when worn on the wrist.  Snake designs in jewellery were really popular from the Georgian period onwards and are still popular today.  The snake motif represents “Eternal love and wisdom”, so pieces such as this ring would have been a gift from an admirer.
